About Marie LeBlanc
Marie LeBlanc is a self-taught, photo-based performance artist/street photographer, writer and poet who is deeply inspired by the world around her. She completed her Bachelor of Arts Advanced Major Degree in Human Geography and Sociology from the University of Manitoba. Marie is a graduate of Artbeat Studio's Artist In Residency Program. Marie also completed the Martha Street Studio's Making Our Mark II mentorship program, which she attended through the Arts and Disability Network of Manitoba, now known as Arts AccessAbility Network, Manitoba. She has evolved her art to include film and street art, projecting her projects onto the world around her.
Marie has exhibited extensively throughout Manitoba, and has won numerous awards of recognition for her art. Some of her work has been published on websites such as CommunityNewsCommons.org and mcs-aware.org (UK), in newspapers including The Jasper Fitzhugh, The Watrous Manitou (SK), The Lanigan (SK), Opasquia Times (MB), Wolseley Leaf (MB), Winnipeg Free Press and Metro, and in magazines GEEZ and Understorey.
Marie’s photography and her journey as a person with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity has been featured on CTV News Winnipeg, CKUW 95.9 FM Radio and CBC Radio. Marie also donates her art to various charitable organizations.
Marie has a background in alternative/complementary health and advocates and is active with many committees to create awareness for people with various disabilities.
In 2012, Marie was awarded the Mental Health Volunteer Hero of the year for her volunteer work with the Canadian Mental Health Association, helping Canadians in Manitoba with mental health issues.
Marie believes creative expression through art and entertainment is healing for your body, mind and soul.
